Is this gonna work?

I just read Vanessa's blog, and it made me think about all these fears I have with the band. I just feel like it's not working. I am almost four months out, and I am 8 lbs heavier than I was a month post-op. I should be down 50 lbs by now. (Edited to add: I realize 50 lbs in 4 months might seem aggressive, but I need to lose 200+ lbs, so in reality, it's actually not!)
Argh.

I just keep stressing over whether or not this is going to work for me. I had some poached eggs with grits for lunch and they didn't stick with me at all. Cheese sticks aren't sticking with me either. This is freaking me out that this fill didn't do anything restriction-wise.

Argh.

I am hungry. I'm tired of being hungry. I'm tired of waiting for restriction. I'm tired of wondering when and if this is going to work.

Argh.

The logical part of me looks at other people's blogs and knows that restriction will make a difference, and that it WILL happen. The illogical part of me feels like the band just isn't going to work for me. Maybe it's slipped. Maybe it's eroded. Maybe it's not connected and just floating around freely in my guts.

Argh.

If you had a slow start, please let me know how it went for you, even with a link to your blog. I need some reassurance!

  1. Oh my are you singing MY SONG!!! I was a slow starter too. Well, I started out well for a month and a half after surgery - I was too tight so I lost like crazy. Then restriction went away and a languished for 6 full months. I had the same fear.

  2. I was a super slow starter! I'm telling you I was exactly where you are at 4 months..even close to 5 months post op! I felt like I hovered around the same weight loss for MONTHS.

Things will get better. I promise. :-)

  3. It took me forever to get restriction - I lost but it was through will power and I had big doubts. It is very different once you get restriction.
I remember writing a post once questioning if they even put a band in me.
    Hang in there.

  4. Hi, Amy! I just started following your blog. I am getting banded at the end of the month and have learned a lot from reading your posts. Sorry I can't really comment about this one specifically, but I appreciate the info. Good Luck!!

  5. I didn't have a slow start (so sorry xx) but I can tell you that its common knowledge that the doctors tell you it can be up to 6 months before a band kicks into high gear.

I guess for some people its different.. some - like me - lose in the early part... and others like yourself will lose later on.. For me now its slowed right down (haha to me huh!! lol).. I really hope your weight loss takes off with a bang! It will get better, Amy. Believe it. xxx
PS New profile pic - I like it!!

  6. Amy, I am almost 5 months post op and haven't lost 50 lbs yet. It has taken 4 fills and 6.25cc's in my 9cc band to get me some decent restriction. You will get there. If your band had slipped, eroded or something crazy like that you would know it. This will work for you just give it a little time!

  8. Thanks, everyone. I know, I know, I know it will come. I know it takes fills. I know it takes patience. I'm just running out. And I know my stupid surgeon's office is going to tell me to wait 4-6 weeks, and I am going to have to call and cry in order to get an earlier appointment. Which I will totally do.
