Holy gas pain

I was in such pain from gas today that I was starting to kind of wonder if something was wrong. It was stuck in my left side, right at the bottom of my rib cage, and it was shooting pains and hurt to breathe deep. It was awful!

Fortunately, I had some Gas X strips (thanks, girls!) and sucked down three of those. About 30 min later, it finally subsided. And since we're all friends here, I won't lie - this was my motto for about 10 min:

DH was getting concerned, because I was almost in tears, it was so bad. And he knows I'm not a wimp. He was convinced it was more than gas, but I told him this seems to be a common problem at this stage of recovery. I promised him I'd call the doc in an hour if it wasn't better, which it was. Honestly, I was almost as concerned as him.

So, was this normal? It hurt so bad, I am tempted to preempt any more pain and just suck on Gas X strips 24/7. I won't, but dang, the pain can STAY AWAY. This was seriously, by a mile and a half, the most pain I've had since surgery.

  1. I had the same thing happen. I woke up at 3:30AM maybe three days after surgery with terrible gas pains and not like I'd been having under my collar bone/shouler area. I sent my husband to the store in the middle of the night for gas-x. But honestly I didn't have any relief until I could actually pass the gas. It wasn't pretty.

  2. It does sound normal - though not at all pleasant. The good news is you shouldn't experience too many more of those experiences - if at all! Glad it finally went. Fart and be proud just like the poster says!!!

  3. Hi Amy, I am new to your blog. I found you through one of the other blogs I follow. I love your honesty. I was banded on 11/19 & I guess I am one of the lucky ones, in that I have never had any of the gas pains or nausea, etc. BUT, I definitely didn't hold in any gas, even in the Hospital! I always felt sorry for the poor Nurses that came into my room! But, in this case, better out than in, I always say!! Don't worry, it gets better!

  4. Feeling soooo much better this morning. No gas pains AND no shoulder pain. Fingers crossed it stays that way. As I was thinking about it, it might have been from sitting up in my desk chair at work all day. Hmmmm, hope it was a one time occurence!
